This study on the sexualisation and commercialisation of children in Ireland was commissioned under the Irish Research Council¿s Research Development Initiative, in conjunction with the Department of Children and Youth Affairs. The study was exploratory and its specific objectives were to: ¿ comprehensively review the literature on the sexualisation and commercialisation of children; ¿ uncover and critically analyse the various concepts of `childhood¿ evident in the academic, policy and popular discourses generated by this issue; ¿ ascertain the views and experiences of parents, as well as a small number of young adults and other stakeholders; ¿ review and analyse Irish and other national regulatory frameworks and initiatives to address the `problems¿ of the sexualisation and commercialisation of children, and in so doing, to draw conclusions and make recommendations for Irish policy and practice.
